Iraq always argued Kuwait as sovereign state was artificial
creation of the imperial powers. This political motive was allied to an
economic imperative, with the major reason primarily by the accumulated of war
debts following the 8 years war with Iran. The solution of Iraq’s problem is
the annexation of Kuwait. Saddam Hussein as the Iraqi President stated that the
west would not use the force defending Kuwait.
The invasion of Kuwait, august 2nd 1990 later led
to a series of UN resolutions for Iraq to unconditionally withdraw. When the US
led coalition of international forces held and gathered in Saudi Arabia the
economic sanctions were applied. The “Desert Storm” operation crashed the Iraqi
resistance in just about 6 weeks.
The Gulf War had certainly revived the UN doctrine of
collective security even though there were doubts storming them and remained
about the underlying motivations for the war and the way in which it was fought
so the coalition of national armies was controlled by the US rather than UN).
President George H. Bush declared that the war was about
more than a small country, it is bigger as a new world order. The content of
this new world order was ‘peaceful settlement of disputes, solidarity against
aggression, reduced and controlled arsenals, and just treatment of all peoples’
